The Yoga Way school
The Yoga Way school, the Power of Pivoting
From the beginning, I wasn’t interested in yoga as a fad or fitness trend-
I wanted a school where practice was structured, traditional, and genuinely transformative.
I saw a gap in many yoga spaces: lots of movement, but little individual guidance or mental training. There was also a lack of teachings around divinity and our deeper purpose. The Yoga Way filled that gap for 15 years as a physical school in downtown.
Toronto.
No drop-ins.
No randomness.
Students committed to programs, progressed over time, and received real guidance. Many refer to those years as the “golden years of yoga.”
And yet, behind the scenes, something in me was burning out. My life had become the school. What I had built was a service—but it had become a trap. There wasn’t much balance or room for any personal aspirations.
Pivot 3 : Europe: motherhood, travel & life
While maintaining a long-distance relationship with my now husband, life was asking for attention on relationships & family. After so much love and work had been poured into the school, I closed it, sold my house and left for Europe. This led to travelling and learning to cook for the first time. Long before COVID, I created online programs, courses and offered consultations to students in the UK, Canada and the US. In between, and after a miscarriage, I became a mother to a beautiful boy in my mid-40’s. TYW became an online resource for those seeking self-practice guidance and retreats in India.
Pivot 4: Tunisia: From loss to the seaside
After facing unexpected job losses, a new terrain surfaced, opening the door for us to relocate to Tunisia in North Africa. With another move came making use of Yoga not as exercise but as a true skill set in adaptation. Life in an Arabic country presented new adventures and challenges. It was rich with diverse history and culture. My days unfolded by the sea, immersed in practice and study, and return trips to India— while caring for my family, mothering a toddler, and experiencing life in another world.
Shreyas Retreat, India
As lead teacher for the annual Yoga and Meditation Retreat at Shreyas Retreat—a boutique ashram devoted to self-discovery and a yogic lifestyle—I guided students from around the world as they immersed themselves in yoga’s teachings in its homeland. These retreats shifted perspectives, opened new possibilities, and were life-altering.
Yoga as a skill, life’s energy force
Yoga as a living practice is about applied knowledge and lived experience, not gathering more information. At the center of my teaching is regular fasting, chanting, and silent retreats that balance and harmonize life. While Yoga is mostly depicted as a stretch, it uses the body to change the patterns of the mind and emotions, and works within the subtler realms. The power of personal practice is like no other for growth, and continues to surprise me.
Pivot 5: Black Forest Chapter
Learn about the Pranayama Restore, 1.0 course.
After a few years of living and travelling in Northern Africa, we returned to Germany’s Black Forest. Moving across continents can be overwhelming—the logistics, disrupted routines, and emotional strain. Yoga became a steady anchor through conscious breathing and mindful movement. It built inner strength and resilience. Even a short daily practices ease tension and supports stress management.
